Read these! 5 Must reads - Shoujo Manga edition

So Recently, i've made a list of 5 contemporary romance books must reads and i've decided to make this list as well because why the hell not? Here are 5 shoujo manga that I ultimately love - both art and story. I'd love to add more since I have like tons of shoujo manga to recommend to you guys but i'll leave that to another time, another post. I'll have to categorize and sort everything out first. So here, with their status, genre, plot and again my few words, are the 5 that made my list:

1. Orange By Takano Ichigo

STATUS: Ongoing

GENRE: Drama, Mystery, Romance, School Life, Shoujo, Slice Of Life, Tragedy

PLOT: In the Spring she was 16, Takamiya Naho receives a strange, but detailed letter from herself, ten years in the future. At first she thinks the letter is a prank, but then the things written in the letter actually happen, including the new transfer student that sits next to her in class, Naruse Kakeru. The letter reads just like her diary entries, down to the same characters. It is not till two weeks later, when Kakeru shows back up at school, that Naho finishes the letter. In the letter, her 27-year-old self tells her 16-year-old self that her biggest regret is that Kakeru is no longer with them in the future, and asks her to watch him closely.

MY FEW WORDS: This is a must-read. Every chapter of this manga is so heart-warming, some because of the sweetness and innocence of Naho, some because you just feel sad for the characters but this one is definitely one of the best out there both plot-wise and art-wise. It feels as if you just can't wait to see how the story unfolds every chapter.

2. Hirunaka no Ryuusei

STATUS: completed

GENRE: Comedy, Romance, School Life, Shoujo

PLOT: 15-year-old country girl Suzume Yosano has to move to Tokyo to live with her uncle due to her father's transfer. She bumps into a mysterious man who ends up taking her to her uncle's place after she gets lost. Turns out, Suzume will be seeing him a lot more often once she starts school because...he's actually her homeroom teacher!

MY FEW WORDS: I actually don't know if I love this manga because of its plot or just because I love how it ended... Mamura's still adorable either way though, I mean the whole manga.

3. Horimiya

STATUS: Ongoing

GENRE: Comedy, Romance, School Life, Shoujo, Slice Of Life

PLOT: Hori may seem like a normal teenage girl, but she's a completely different person after school. In her workaholic parents' absence, Hori has been like a parent for her little brother since she was young herself. Between taking care of her brother, feeding them both, and housework, she doesn't have much time for a usual teenage social life. One day, she meets someone else who does not present his true self at school: a quiet, glasses-wearing boy called Miyamura. She'd assumed he was bookish, and possibly an otaku, but Hori couldn't have been more wrong. Outside of school, Miyamura is a friendly guy with many piercings, and he's not very good at academics. Now the two of them have someone with whom they can share both halves of their lives!

MY FEW WORDS: I love how Horimiya depicts the growth of the characters. I love the art, the comedy and everything about it. You should definitely read this if you're looking for a cute and funny story.

4. Hibi Chouchou

STATUS: Ongoing

GENRE: Comedy, Romance, School Life, Shoujo, Slice Of Life

PLOT: Upon entering high school, the very quiet but extremely cute Suiren becomes the immediate center of attention among the boys…but one particular boy does not look her way.The story of a quiet girl and a quiet boy. A short, refreshing love story.

REVIEW: A very light and cute story with gorgeous art. Hibi chouchou is something that makes you feel like a high schooler again, well it'll make you feel young and jealous of all its innocent and pure characters that's for sure.
4. Boku to Kimi to de Niji ni Naru

STATUS: Ongoing

GENRE:  Romance, School Life, Shoujo, Slice Of Life

PLOT: Because she loved the word "wisdom", Rui hated the words "waste" and "fuzzy". One day, a guy named Shou appeared on her life. And thanks to that encounter, Rui will suddenly change... And that's the beginning of a "rainbow school daze" between that super dry girl and that careless guy.

MY FEW WORDS: I'm really excited about the character development with this one. I'm waiting to see how it all unfolds and hoping for faster updates, but don't we all? Beautiful art with this one too plus we have the adorable twins as the supporting characters are few of the many reasons why this manga made it to this list.

5. ReRe Hello

STATUS: Ongoing

GENRE:  Romance, School Life, Shoujo, Slice Of Life

PLOT: When Ririko was 5, she lost her mother forever. From then on, Ririko has to help out her father to run a company of handyman. Since then, something horrible happened...

MY FEW WORDS: First of all, the art is just divine. Second, Ririko's character! She's not at all like the other female leads who are weak and just cry during hard situations, she can stand up for herself and just an awesome gal overall.  This one's a must read for everyone, just read it and trust me on this one.

  1. I really agree with your choices since I've also read these stories :) The art is cute and attractive, the plot isn't cliché, the main characters' development weren't rushed and properly expressed. I'd like to recommend you to read Hana to Akuma, Hana Kimi, Faster than a Kiss, Dengeki Daisy, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, Oresama Teacher, Ouran High School Host Club. These have really good art, the main characters have interesting personalities, and the development is sometimes slow but there are a lot of cutesy scenes hahaha, if you haven't tried it yet, please do and I hope you enjoy it :) This is getting too long sorry haha

    That's all, hope I helped ^^

Since it means that they have really interesting stories which makes everyone interested with them :D
